The Future of WordPress Theming

I don’t know about any other WordPress theme authors, but this functionality is what I’ll be aiming for when creating the holy grail of WordPress themes.

WPFreemium Theme 2.0 Released!

Now that school’s finally over (finals next week), I was finally able to put in some time to update the long over due WPFreemium theme 2.0. It fixes a lot of browser quirks and an overall face lift.

The fist release of this theme was a striped down version of what I had developed for bloggingtips so not everything was stable. With the 2.0 release, I’ve completely rewritten the HTML and CSS code from the ground up to give it a fresh start. In that process, I was getting acquainted with blueprint so I’ve still got some refactoring to do. Especially in the CSS.

I also made some very noticeably UI changes to the theme. Base on the feedback I was getting, several people were confused on how the three featured post section worked so I dropped it in replaced to the regular one stream of posts. In the future I might offer alternative layouts to bring back that custom layout but it’ll depend on demand. Also, I widgetized both the recent comments and author links sections so those are now pluggable anywhere instead of just showing up if you didn’t have widgets activated.

Hope you like it!

I <3 Blueprint

I’ve been finally making the transition over to a CSS framework instead of using my custom CSS workflow. Of course that framework is Blueprint, but timing couldn’t have been better. I’m releasing WP Freemium theme 2.0 this week with much more proven backend and UI overhaul. I’ll keep you posted.

WordPress on the iPhone

Just testing out the new Open Source WordPress app for the iPhone. It was just released a couple of hours ago and i’ve been playing around with it since. So far it feels solid. There are a few UI bugs but outside of that, I’m liking it!

Problems:
Once you tab on a post to edit it, it only gives you the option to post it. It doesn’t allow you to go back unless you tap the home button (which quits the app).

There’s also a time difference when I posted this note compared to what it says on the app.

WordPress International Day & WP News Theme Logo Finalized!

It’s been a while since I talked about WP News Theme — my Freemium WordPress magazine theme coming really soon. So I thought I might give you an update of what’s going on since today’s International WordPress Day.

Although it’s been ~5 months since the I first started, I can assure you I haven’t forgotten about it and I’ve been making great progress recently. Since February, I counted 7 total complete internal redesigns on the layout! Each revision, I got closer to want I felt was worthy, so to say. Here’s a glimpse of what the logo looks like:

Like I said, this is a magazine theme so I wanted to capture that theme in the logo as well. It’s still in PSD format but I’m going to convert it in illustrator to make it scalable and vector-ish!

Logo’s looking awesome, but what about the theme?

Ah, yes. To tell you the truth, the actual theme is around 60% complete. Annoyed by Photoshop’s unrealistic text rendering and other small quirks, I decided to move to Stage 2, HTML/CSS markup to get a better feel of the layout. That’s where I’m at now, setting everything in stone so that once I make the conversion to WordPress, it’ll be a piece of cake.

I can’t wait to release this super customizable theme, it’s targeted to be the best of it’s class!

P.S. I also donated to WordPress today and hope that they continue to make WordPress as best as possbile!
